Steelers Free Agent Signings
Published:
Last night the Steelers made a significant free agent signing so I thought I’d take a moment to run through what they’ve done to this point.
1) Running Back Duce Staley (formally of the Philadelphia Eagles) signed with the Steelers last night for 5 years. I think this is a great signing. Duce hasn’t played much in the last couple of years because the Eagles have been blessed to have three high quality backs. This is a guy who’s rushed for 1,000 yards three times and I think will have an immediate impact for us next season as the starting Running Back. This should mark the end of Amos Zereoue.
2) We re-signed Linebacker Clark Haggans who will probably start at OLB next season because Jason Gildon is probably going to be released. He played really well last year when Joey Porter was injured and he can probably get to the quarterback better than Gildon at this point.
3) We re-signed Tight-End Matt Cushing. Not much to say here, he’s the third TE on the roster.
4) We re-signed Full Back Dan Kreider. Dan should get more playing time this season with Duce in the backfield and hopefully a healthier offensive line. Run the ball!
5) We signed free agent punter Chris Gardocki and released Josh Miller. His claim to fame is that he holds the record of consecutive punts without having one blocked, 978.
6) Wide Receiver Chris Doering re-signed with the club. He’s the fourth receiver and while he isn’t fast he has great hands. He worked out really well on third down for the Steelers last year and I’m glad they re-signed him.
Is it bad that it’s March 10th and I’m anxious for the football season to start already?
